In Glastonbury
Glastonbury has numerous parks with plenty of hiking trails, and an Audubon Society. Rockhaven is located across the street from the high school, with a heavy schedule of interesting cultural and entertainment events: arts and craft shows, antique sales, plays and musicals, as well as a curriculum of interesting continuing education classes. The indoor swimming pool is opened during selective hours to the public. And it is free to seniors.
The town green, just down Hubbard Street, offers evening musical concerts during the summer, a juried art show, and a fantastic apple festival in the fall, which celebrates the annual harvest of Glastonburys orchard farmers.
Since its early founding, Glastonbury has had a long history of diligent farmers who produce some of the most delicious fruits and vegetables in New England. From early summer to the final frosts of fall, you can find local produce stands all over town, selling lettuce, peppers, sweet corn, apples and apple cider, pumpkins, squash, and more. If you love picking your own, youll find plenty of farms that offer strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, apples, and pumpkins for Halloween. You might want to throw in a hayride too!
Nearby Cities
Rockhaven is just 8 miles southeast of Hartford. Its easy to take advantage of the cultural offerings of Hartfords symphony, ballet, several theater companies, a first-class museum, and a grand performance hall where you can enjoy anything from The Messiah, to a Broadway musical, to Garrison Kielor.
Rockhaven is 1 1/2 hours from Boston, and 2 hours from New York City. A pleasant bus ride takes you to some of the best museums and shopping areas in the country. The only thing to limit a rich and fulfilling life experience is a lack of imagination.
Home at Rockhaven
We also schedule periodic events for our residents and friends. Each year we charter a bus to Boston to attend the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church. Occasionally, we invite a speaker to share their expertise with our residents in the intimate atmosphere of the Administration House living room.
Of course, we have an annual Christmas party and summer picnic. We consider these our family gatherings and enjoy plenty of good potluck goodies and fun together.
Were always looking for cultural and entertainment ideas, so if you have an idea youd like to propose, please contact the Adminstrator at administrator@rockhavenhome.com. .
